• Location and history the vineyards Mayard
Mayard family domain is located on the beautiful village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Vaucluse. It is now the 5th generation, Béatrice and Didier Mayard supported by their team, who care for this prestigious vineyards of the Rhône Valley. Its origin takes from courage and commitment for its lands of Gratien Mayard, who, following the ravages of the phylloxera at the end of the 19th century, rebuilt this Vineyard.
• Soils and vineyards
Mayard vineyards spread over 43 hectares. Vineyards are rooted on the basis of the plots in sandy, loamy and clayey soils. They have the characteristic to be covered with alpine diluvium, the famous rolled roller. Polished and filed by the Rhône River, it is the hallmark of this terroir. These rollers have the particularity to restore to the grapes the heat accumulated day thereby facilitating the ripening of berries. In addition, they avoid the development of certain diseases by absorbing moisture.
o In viticulture: in winegrowing, the Mayard field grown grapes for some centenarians. The red wines are obtained depending on the vintages from grenache, syrah, cinsault and mourvedre. While the white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an Assembly of grenache white, clairette, bourboulenc, roussanne, and picpoul. Mayard vineyards prefer a work of mechanical tillage and green work to guarantee the health and maturity. o In winemaking: the harvest is done manually and a severe sorting is performed to guarantee the quality of their six vintages. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks or cement from 18 to 30 days with a conscientious monitoring of temperatures. o Livestock: livestock are carried out according to the wines in vats or in lightning between 12 to 18 months. The proportion of new barrels depends also of "cuvées" and vintage.
